Participant Categories
Individual Student Participants
THE NOVICE DIVISION
Any student who is currently in the 1st year of a Sports Medicine course/program.
These individuals will compete against other rookies for awards.
THE INTERMEDIATE DIVISION
Any student who has completed a Sports Medicine course/program.
Any student in the 2nd year of a Sports Medicine Program (either official course or volunteer in the program).
These individuals will compete against other advanced students for awards.
THE ADVANCED DIVISION
Any student who has completed a Sports Medicine course/program.
Any student in a 3rd, or 4th year of a Sports Medicine Program (either official course or volunteer in the program).
These individuals will compete against other advanced students for awards.
The High School Athletic Training Student of the Year
Student must be nominated by his/her teacher. One nomination per school.
The student must have completed a minimum of 50 hours of service, in his/her Sports Medicine Program
The student must submit a portfolio several weeks prior to competition (on a date TBA) to be evaluated by a independent panel of judges.
The portfolio will consist of essays, pictures, and article reviews.
The students with the top three (3) scores from the essay and portfolio will be asked to create a 8-12 minute oral presentation to be presented at the competition to a independent panel of judges.
The combination of Essay score + Portfolio Score + Competition Written Exam Score + Competition Practical Score + Oral Presentation Score= will determine the place of the finalists.

Sports Medicine Competition Team Championship
Team Championship is divided into two divisions:
Small Schools = Any program with 14 or less students participating at the competition. (A minimum of 5 participants must be representing the school for it to be eligible for the team championship).
Large Schools = Any program with 15 or more students participating at the competition.
Top 5 schools in each division will be presented with awards.
School place will be determined by the overall average of all students participating from each school.

Specialty Exams
Creating a new and diverse testing scenarios is always a goal! Specialty Exams were added in 2018. These exams will be held during a specified time throughout the day, in a separate classrooms/event spaces.
A school can select 1 student for each test, but no student may compete in more than one (2) specialty tests in 2024.
–Anatomage Challenge (3-4 persons per team). Hosted By our sponsor Anatomage
–Medical Terminology Test or Medical Abbreviations (1 person per school)
–Mini Quiz Bowl (One team per school. Team is 3 participants.)
Specialty Exams Rules :
Medical abbreviations or Medical terminology exam
a.Each school can have no more than 1 student compete
b.Multiple choice, true/false, or matching
c.100 questions
d.45 minute maximum.
Mini Quiz Bowl
a.A school may have one team of three participants
b.Teams will compete during one, 45 minutes session (up to 8 teams per session)
c.Teams will be issued a buzzer to answer questions
d.Points will be accumulated for correct answers
e.Points will be deducted for incorrect answers
f.Further rules will be emailed to schools following registration

Specialty Awards
The Super Team
See how your students rank against all the schools competing!
The top eight (8) individual student’s scores (written exam + practical exam), from each school, will be averaged together to create the “Super Team” score. The written exam (450 points) + practical exam (100 points) /divided by eight (8) = “Super Team Score”.
The AACI technology department will crunch together the scores of each school’s top eight (8) students, no matter what division they compete in. The Super Team Scores will be compared to all schools in attendance, the top five (5) “Super Team Scores” will be announced during the awards ceremony.
The Sportsmanship Award
a.The AACI School Sportsmanship Award will be driven by the judges, volunteers, and AACI employees on the day of the event.
b.Sportsmanship is an understanding of and commitment to fair play, ethical behavior and integrity, and general goodwill toward an opponent. It is an affirmation that a student is disciplined enough to have perspective, maintain poise and do what is best for his or her teammate.
c.The award will be given to the school/team which, through actions demonstrates fairness, respect, honesty, unselfishness, and responsibility.
