REGIONAL SPORTS MEDICINE COMPETITION
The 25th Annual California Regional High School Sports Medicine Competition & Seminar

The primary goals of the competition are to:
-Inspire Interest: Foster interest and deeper understanding in the Sports Medicine/Athletic Training field.
-Enrich Development: Offer an experience that enriches the student's knowledge and boosts self-confidence.
-Provide Qualification: Serve as a qualifying opportunity for both the AACI National Championships and the Anatomage National Championships.
Competition Participation:
To participate, students must be currently enrolled in, have completed, or be actively involved in a Sports Medicine course or program at their high school.
We welcome students from all program types, including:
-R.O.P./C.T.E. programs
-Health academies
-Lab science courses
-Elective courses
-Small learning communities
-Internship programs
Note: All participating students must be supervised by an adult representative of their program.
The Competition
The Written Exam
1.Students will take a 150-question exam. Each question is worth three points.
2.Format: multiple choice, true/false, and matching questions.
3.Topics included are: Adult CPR w/ AED, Child and Infant CPR, First Aid, Emergency Medicine, Evaluations (HIPS Format), SOAP Notes, Anatomy, Physiology, rehabilitation, and taping procedures. (All CPR questions will be based on current American Red Cross/American Heart Assoc. guidelines)
The Practical Exam
1.Students will be administered five oral questions, each worth 20 points, for a combined 100 points possible.
2.The questions are from the following categories
a. First Aid / CPR ARC/AHA guidelines for CPR
b. Anatomy identification/palpation
c. Anatomy identification/palpation
d. Special Tests or ROM
e. Tape procedure
3.A list of topics are given to each school at least 2 month prior to competition. This will allow preparation time for the students.

–Intermediate Division (Top 5)
